The Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence
The Catholic Education Endowment Trust (CEET) was established in 1976 by the Cleveland Catholic Diocese to promote Catholic education, provide support for religious education programs, and to offer tuition-aid scholarships to families with financial need who desired a Catholic education for their children. As part of this initiative, CEET sponsors a scholarship program to encourage the pursuit of excellence in Catholic education. This program is the Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence.
Now in its 22nd year, this scholarship awards:
- Eight $3,000 scholarships to current 10th and 11th graders applicable to their 11th and 12th grade years, respectively.
- Sixteen $1,000 scholarships to current 6th and 7th graders applicable to their 7th and 8th grade years, respectively.
Guidelines/Criteria:
- The family is required to first complete a FACTS Grant and Aid application for the upcoming school year to determine need.
- If a family has more than one child applying for the Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence, a separate application must be completed for each child.
- The completed Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence application should include:
- An essay written by the student, (minimum of two pages/maximum of three pages, typed and double-spaced) on the topic: Bishop Perez echoes Pope Francis' call for us to be "Missionary Disciples" by sharing what excites us about our faith as we encounter people in everyday life. In your essay, share 3-5 things about your Catholic school experience that excite you. Explain how these everyday experiences place you on the path to living your faith and fulfilling the call from God in your life.
- The student's academic transcript or current report card.
- A brief written recommendation e.g., from a teacher, guidance counselor, or parish staff member (not a family member).
- Principal comments and the principal's signature on the application.
- Applications must be returned to the student's principal by March 1, 2021.
- Principals must submit the applications to the Office of Catechetical Formation and Education by March 15, 2021.
- A maximum of five applications per school may be submitted.
- Recipients will be notified by U.S. Mail if a Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence has been awarded. A copy of the letter will be sent to each student's principal and pastor.
- All recipients, their parents, principal and pastor will be invited to an awards ceremony and luncheon, which typically takes place in the summer months.
