Congratulations to our cheerleaders who were named OASSA Division III Mount Cheerleading State Champions on March 3!

The girls competed against eight teams in Division III to come out on top.

"Heading into states, our goal was to place in the top five," said Ms. Michelle Ferrara, head cheerleading coach. "As the placements in our division were being announced, I realized they were down to the top two teams and Trinity had not been called. When they announced second place, it took me a minute to realize that our name was still not called, and we had won!"

This is the first time in recent years that Trinity's cheerleaders have performed competitively. After getting off to a rough start during their first competition earlier this year, the girls made improvements leading up to the regional competition in February, at which they qualified for states.

"I am so proud of this team and all they have accomplished," said Ferrara. This is a team that has never competed before, and they started at the bottom and worked their way to the top. Their hard work and dedication—to 6:00 AM practices—helped them achieve this title."

The girls are not planning to rest on their laurels. Ferrara says new stunts will be added during practices this summer, and some of the girls are enrolling in tumbling classes to allow the squad to add more complexity to their routines.

Students who are interested in joining the championship squad should pay attention to in-school announcements during April and May when clinics and try-outs for next school year will take place.
