Trinity Implements Vocera Communication BadgesDear Trinity High School Stakeholders,

I write to share encouraging news about the positive impact the Stryker Vocera badges have had on our school environment. Thanks to our second $100,000 grant that we received from the State of Ohio for school safety. As part of our broader commitment to safety, swift communication, and a calm, mission-focused campus, we equipped faculty, office staff, and student-support teams with Stryker’s wearable communication badges this year.

These devices allow staff to connect instantly by voice, role, or group—hands-free—across classrooms, hallways, and common spaces, and provide a dedicated emergency (“panic”) function when urgent support is needed.

Faster support, fewer disruptions. Teachers and administrators can now reach the right colleague immediately—“by role” (e.g., Dean, Office, Security) or “by group” (e.g., Hall Monitors, Student Services)—without stepping out of the room or relying on radios and phone trees. This has reduced classroom interruptions and has accelerated routine problem-solving during class transitions and lunch periods. Independent studies in public-safety and hospital environments have shown that Vocera badges shorten response times significantly, which aligns with our day-to-day experience at Trinity.

Clear, campus-wide coordination. For events that require a broad, coordinated response—medical assistance, facilities needs, or after-school crowd management—the badges support rapid, role-based broadcast and two-way conversation. Stryker’s K–12 materials describe this as “quick, broad communication” that goes beyond walkie-talkies by combining voice, secure messaging, and notifications in one device. That design has helped our teams act quickly while keeping the overall atmosphere calm for students.

Emergency readiness with discretion. Each badge includes a dedicated, easily identifiable emergency button that can summon help discreetly and initiate an urgent broadcast to designated responders. This capability strengthens our ability to manage time-sensitive situations without escalating anxiety in nearby classrooms. Current Stryker documentation details how the emergency (“panic”) feature works on both the Smartbadge and the newer Sync Badge.

A safer, calmer school day. National discussions on school safety increasingly emphasize communication—not only having a “panic button,” but ensuring staff can connect the right people, right away, every day. Stryker’s K–12 guidance and partner articles highlight how unified, wearable communication tools help close known gaps between staff, front office, and security and support collaboration with public-safety partners when needed. These perspectives mirror our goal: strong safety practices that preserve a welcoming, learning-focused environment.

In short, the badges are helping Trinity operate with greater speed, clarity, and care—supporting teachers in the classroom, coordinating student services more efficiently, and enhancing our emergency preparedness. We will continue to assess outcomes, train staff, and fine-tune response protocols in partnership with law enforcement and diocesan safety advisors.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. Together, we are building a school environment that is safe, orderly, and centered on our mission.

Peace and all good,
Mr. William Svoboda
