When you ask senior Intern Michael Robertson what his internship day holds each week, you never know what kind of answer you will get. Michael is experiencing his dream internship in the field of outdoor conservation with Cleveland Metroparks. One week he might report he was placing wildlife cameras in trees, and another week he might say he was in a canoe replacing wood duck nest box material.

According to his internship supervisor, Ms. Jennifer Grieser, Senior Natural Resource Manager, Michael has worked within 10 different reservations of Cleveland Metroparks. In addition to the activities mentioned above, his experiences have included learning telemetry, reviewing coyote reports, quality control of invasive plant database, various site visits, Zooniverse classifications, cutting browse material for the Zoo, seed stratification, assistance with the Watershed Volunteer Program, and participation in meetings and interviews.

"This internship has reinforced that I want to be a Park Ranger," Michael said. "The people I have worked with are friendly, glad to answer all of my questions, and set me up with experiences in areas I have interest in. For example, when I expressed a desire to see outdoor management in winter, I spent some time learning how to track deer with satellite and mapping technology. This is definitely the perfect senior internship for me."
