Trinity High School's Beginning Band and Advanced Band, under the direction of Scott Tenney, presented their winter concert Thursday evening to an appreciative audience. A wide selection of pieces were presented which included classical music and a medley of songs from The Rolling Stones.
Though the members of the beginning band had just started playing their instruments this January, they presented several pieces on their own featuring solos by Donny Robertson, Sirah Clark, and Colin King and also joined the advanced band for the closing pieces of the concert. The Intermediate Band section featured several soloists including Victor Lesisz, Eric Johnson, Brian Glueck, Drucilla Pottinger, Jesse Molina, and Rob Morel. A trio of Rob Morel on clarinet, Eric Johnson on trumpet, and Matt Ibos on tuba presented a piece the students arranged themselves.
Director Scott Tenney could feel the students' excitement even before the concert started. "The students worked hard getting the concert ready, either in their band class or during the morning activity program," he said. "They really seemed to enjoy the pieces we chose and it showed in the performance they gave."
Eleventh grader Eric Johnson is in this third year in the band program. "When I started in the band in ninth grade, I had never played a trumpet or read music before," he said. "I've found band to be a great way to make friends and now some of us get together to play music. Marching band is fun as we perform our half-time show, but I enjoy concert band too since it seems more regal."
Mr. Harry Rimmel, parent of freshman Maria and alumni Angela '06 and Katelyn '03 is a proud supporter of the Trinity Band program. "I was in the band myself from fifth grade through college," Mr. Rimmel stated. "I know the value of band for the friends you make and the experience you have. Trinity is very fortunate to have the small but tight-knit group of talented students and Mr. Tenney directing them with his 30+ years of experience."
