Trinity alumna experiences life abroad
Colleen Maher, '07, spent a term studying in Greece this year during as part of her program at Boston College. Colleen, who is currently a junior majoring in Psychology and minoring in American Studies with a concentration in Pre-Law, jumped at the chance to expand her cultural awareness and to extend her education beyond the classroom. "I felt I had much to gain from exposing myself to new places, new people and a different way of life," she explained.

Like any traveler, Colleen encountered a few challenges such as missing a flight in London and being pick-pocketed on a Greek bus. Overall, however, she reports that she had an amazing time. "I enjoyed the slower pace of life, the affectionate culture and the rich cuisine. I learned to take time to enjoy life as it comes, no matter how unpredictable that may be. Additionally, I am extremely happy I had the chance to share my college experience with students from around the U.S. and Europe. Spending a semester abroad was a wonderful decision."

Colleen packed many adventures into her trip, including sailing in Halkidiki for a weekend, climbing Mt. Olympus, exploring the ruins in Crete, visiting the mountaintop monasteries in Meteora and wandering the streets of Athens. She also traveled to England, Romania, Turkey, Italy and Morocco.

Colleen credits Trinity with preparing her well for her college experience including this trip. "Without the learning tools I received at Trinity, I would not have been able to pursue my rigorous academic coursework at Boston College," she said. "Many opportunities, such as this one, would have been lost. Trinity encouraged me to think for myself -- to explore an issue and react to it independently. For that gift, I am ever grateful."
